THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣
1️⃣ 🤰🏽How to Tell Your Boss You’re Pregnant
We know, we know. Women aren’t supposed to be discriminated against when they disclose their pregnancy to their employers. But we all know that there are risks. How will they react? What about your team?
So how do you tell your boss you’re pregnant without causing a huge headache for yourself? We’ve got your back here. Check out this resource from CARRY™ Media for everything you need to know about telling you’re boss you’re expecting.
2️⃣ 👩🏻💻 Making the Case for Workplace Flexibility
Over on LinkedIn, our founder Paula Faris has kept the conversation going about the return to office (RTO) mandates that we’ve been seeing lately. And TBH? We’re loving the comments that have been rolling in supporting working moms who NEED flexibility that allows them to work AND run a household. And then we read this quote: “Millennial moms work more than previous generations of mothers, and we spend more time parenting our kids, plus our parents can’t or don’t want to help us out (or need care themselves). And then there’s the astronomical cost of child care. We are at capacity all the time, even with the trappings of professional flexibility.” So tell us again that we’re being unreasonable as we ask for a touch of flexibility in the workplace. Who else is still fired up? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below.
3️⃣ 📔 Journaling Towards Stress Relief
If it feels like life lately has been TOUGH, you’re not alone. Blame it on the state of the world, or mercury in retrograde, or the crazy heat that’s hit most of the country. Whatever it is, it’s OK if you don’t feel OK…A great way to work through those tough moments? Journaling. Studies have found that journaling can not only help manage stress but also have a positive effect on our well being. We found some great journals with prompts to help you work through however you’re feeling:
A Year of Self-Care Journal - to cultivate joy and positivity
Dig Deeper - for intention, healing, growth and gratitude
Let That Sh*t Go - for leaving your BS behind and creating a happy life
Stuff I’d Only Tell God - a guided journal of courageous honesty
Welcome, Hustler - an empowerment journal
📰 IN THE NEWS
Mothers Are Leaving the Workforce
➡️ The share of mothers ages 25 to 44 with young children in the workforce has fallen nearly every month this year, dropping by nearly 3 percentage points between January and June, to the lowest level in more than three years. This drop has nearly wiped out most of the gains made by working mothers since the pandemic. Read more about it in this article from The Washington Post.

Parenting teens and not sure when you should push back and when you should chill a bit? Yeah, it can be a fine line to walk without coming off as “mid.” (We’re trying to translate the slang too… 🤦🏻♀️) We love this article because it focuses on norms that often go unchecked in teen culture. Norms like the pressure to belong to a popular friend group, or emotional disengagement from parents. Our favorite? The section on pushing back against the phone addiction norm. (Hint: rather than banning devices outright, it might be better to have an upfront conversation and set healthy boundaries.) Check it out.
Last week’s poll results: Nearly 80% don’t buy into the “18 Summers” narrative — your kids will always be your babies. Keep reading for a few of your thoughts and comments!
➡️ “I had to ask for it, it’s not guaranteed, and I often feel guilt for having “preferential” treatment. I am also always anticipating a drastic change or the expectation to change my arrangement.”
➡️ “I work for a nonprofit and I am incredibly thankful that I have the flexibility to do school drop offs and pickups, have a hybrid schedule, and the ability to completely log off at the end of the day. It’s encouraged and modeled by leadership to have a healthy work/life balance.”
➡️ “Teacher....”
➡️ “I had to take 2 demotions in order to stay remote. On one hand, I'm thankful to still have a job. On the other hand, I can never move up or move positions within the company. Im completely stuck.”
