THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣

1️⃣ 👧 Still in a Summer Child Care Pinch? Try this.

If you’re still on “Team Winging It” for the summer when it comes to child care, you’re not alone. Fortunately, two moms have taken the guesswork out of solutions for child care while you work. If day camp (which costs on average $435 per week per kid 🤯) or sleep-away camp (even more expensive) aren’t possible, you can consider these options. Our favorite? Setting up a childcare swap with other parents to save money.

2️⃣ Tools to Help You Reclaim Time

Feel like you never have time for ANYTHING now that you’re a parent? Maybe you’re thinking about it all wrong. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Don’t look to what other parents on social media are doing to manage it all, and don’t even listen to well-meaning colleagues and friends. When it comes to reclaiming your time, it’s a very personal process. This article gives great ideas for how to reset your mindset and get some time back. We definitely love the time-boxing method they suggest!

3️⃣ 🍌 A $9 Game-Changer for Countertop Clutter

Kitchen clutter got you down? Not surprising, since research has shown that women are disproportionately affected by the clutter around them. One way to address it is to get some things off those counters! Specifically? Bananas. Yep–get yourself a Gadjit Banana Hook that hangs under the cabinet. It will not only clear up some space, but will help avoid those dark brown spots where the bananas sit.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT 🤎

for working moms with older children
  • As parents, we know that WE need caffeine, but what about our teens? And how much is too much? While teens generally consume caffeinated beverages more for the taste than to stay awake, it can be easy for them to overdo it. This article provides some helpful information when it comes to kids and caffeine. Just remember–children under 12 should not consume it, if possible, and teens should limit their consumption to under 100mg per day. (For context: the popular Celsius drinks have 200+mg)

  • Have you found that your child hit puberty and started to stink a bit? 😷 While their bodily changes are completely normal, they don’t have to smell bad. Most teens and pre-teens need to be reminded of how to properly wash themselves. (They probably don’t remember the lessons you taught them in the bath every night before bed when they were littles.) For some guidance on what, and how often, they should be doing, check this out

Last week’s poll results: Nearly 44% of you have been penalized in the workplace because you’re a mom! Only 38% of you have not. Keep reading for a few of your thoughts and comments!

➡️ “I was passed over for a promotion (due to "budget") the year after I had my first daughter, and while I can't say for sure, I really believe it was related to the maternity leave I took when she was born. Thankfully, I'm no longer with that company - due in large part to their lack of recognition for the work I was doing.”

➡️ “I work in public education. When I had my three babies, maternity leave was a nightmare to navigate. The most frustrating situation was in one district, they made me use up all my sick and personal leave in conjunction with FMLA, so when I came back to work in January full-time, I had 0 days left to take with two older children and a newborn baby. So anytime a kid (or I) were sick, my husband (who also has limited days off) and I had to debate whether to just send our kids to school/the sitter not feeling well-- and we both went to work feeling terrible many times that year. ”

➡️ “My place of work made no reasonable accommodations for me when I was breastfeeding. My patient load was not changed and I was given no breaks to pump. I was also forced to "clock out". I have never been more irritated.”
