THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣

1️⃣ 📈 Growing Your Child’s Savings

Buying a house, buying a car, paying for college - is far more challenging than it was for your parents’ generation. And no, that’s not because you spend too much money on avocado toast. The reality is, the economy is in a completely different place than it was a few decades ago. Want to make sure your kids don’t end up in the same boat? Get smart about their savings NOW. This short video has some golden nuggets to help you save (and invest) money, so that your kids actually have a down payment when the time comes.

2️⃣ 💰 Finding “Money Moms”

Chances are, you’re already a member of several online moms groups to stay informed about everything from local events, your kids’ school, and maybe even to buy/sell/trade household and children’s items. So why not join one focused on money? Turns out, there are countless online groups geared towards moms who want to know more about saving, investing, trimming expenses, and feeling financially empowered. And we’re here for it. This article about “Money Moms” has great advice, like finding moms with similar challenges to get the kind of support you need.

3️⃣ 📒 The Best Budget Planner

Want to get serious about budgeting? Saving and tracking your expenses doesn’t need to be overly complicated. We love this Budget Planner for doing just that. It even has special pages dedicated to holiday spending so that you’re not thrown off track by buying things like Christmas gifts.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT 🤎

for working moms with older children
  • If you’re feeling the rise in the cost of groceries, rent, and healthcare, you’re not alone. In fact, for the first time since the Great Recession in 2009, the number of teens entering the workforce has jumped sharply. That’s because adolescents aren’t just working to pay for the clothes and sneakers they have their eyes on. They’re getting jobs after school and on weekends to chip in for essential goods for the household. Sure, holding down a job can be great for kids to learn responsibility. But working to help keep the lights on can definitely add stress. This article goes deeper into this new unfortunate trend.

  • Dreading the day that you have to have that talk with your kids? While discussing sex, protection, and drugs is far more normalized today than it was when we were teens, it can still be uncomfortable for ALL parties involved. That’s why Dr. Meghan Martin, a pediatric ER doctor in Florida who posts regularly on TikTok, has a great suggestion: have those talks in the car. Not only do you have a captive audience, but no one has to make eye contact! Brilliant! 😳

Last week’s poll results: Over 50% of you discuss current events with your kids. Keep reading for a few of your thoughts and comments!

➡️ “We do discuss current events with our kids. They don't agree with us hardly ever! My son with autism says he doesn't care. My daughter has very strong opinions that are quite different than mine or my husband's. It does make for lively discussions in the car or at a Sunday breakfast!”

➡️ “I'd rather my kids have the discussion about current events with me and my husband than hear it at school or camp. We make sure to discuss things with our kids in an age-appropriate way and allow them to ask questions. We also want to impress upon our kids that it's okay to have different views/opinions on issues than someone and still be kind to one another.”

➡️ “My kids are young but when things come up in front of them I try to discuss them in age appropriate ways. I don't think sheltering them helps them in the long run.”
