How AI can Lessen our Load

The Carry All

Edition #145 | Read time: 5 Minutes

Hey mamas! It’s Paula, founder of CARRY™ Media and this week, I’m so excited to hand the reins over to a fellow working mom who is going to take over The CARRY ALL, showing us how AI (Artificial Intelligence) can lessen our loads. Stephanie LeBlanc-Godfrey is the founder of Mother AI and a mom of three.

Stephanie: With 20 years in the tech industry under my belt, I've seen technology transform our world. But it wasn't until I became a mom of three—now ranging from elementary to high school—that I realized we needed to bring that innovation home, thoughtfully and intentionally.

As the founder of Mother AI, I explore all things technology + parenting. Our mission is to deliver practical solutions to everyday parenting challenges, and offer a supportive community—empowering you to reclaim time and make the best decisions for what matters most: your family.

This week, I want to show you how AI can be a helpful tool in our parenting toolkit, a way to free up time, lighten the mental load and focus on whatever is most important at the moment. I'll share strategies I've tested with my own family, focusing on using AI as a first-round research assistant to collapse days into hours and hours into minutes.

Ready to see how AI can help us navigate these parenting waters, creating more time for what really matters? "

Let's dive in!

This week in The CARRY™ ALL, we’re talking about:

  • 🍝 Meal Planning Made Easy

  • ✈️ Trip Planning & Packing Made Simple

  • 🎨 "Mom's Working" Activity Guide

If AI could take one parenting task off your plate, which would you choose?

THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣

To use the prompts below, go to ChatGPT.com or your favorite AI tool!

1️⃣ 🍝 Meal Planning Made Easy

Between dietary restrictions, picky eaters, and busy schedules, getting dinner on the table can feel like hosting a dinner party for food critics every single night. AI can help you create meal plans that work for everyone without endless recipe searches.

  • Turn dietary restrictions into delicious solutions

  • Transform favorite recipes into new family hits

  • Create variety without sacrificing preferences

  • Save time and reduce food waste

Prompt: "Create a 5-day dinner plan for a family of [number], including [dietary restrictions/preferences for each family member]. Include a shopping list organized by grocery department."

Pro Tip: Give your recipe cards new life! Just snap a photo and use this second prompt: "Give me creative ways to modify this recipe based on [your family's tastes and needs]."

Real-life Win: When my son suddenly declared he was vegetarian while my daughter remained a devoted carnivore, these prompts helped me adapt our family favorites into flexible meals that satisfied everyone!

2️⃣ ✈️ Trip Planning & Packing Made Simple

This season can mean family visits, day/weekend trips, and school outings - each with its own packing puzzle. Instead of starting from scratch each time (or forgetting essentials), AI can create a customized packing list that considers everyone's needs.

  • Get organized packing lists by category (clothes, toiletries, electronics)

  • Account for specific needs (diapers, medications, special equipment)

  • Never forget essentials for different ages and stages

  • Optimize carry-on contents for maximum efficiency

Prompt: "Create a detailed packing list for [x] days for [x] adults and [x] kids (ages [insert]). Include any special considerations like [diapers/formula/etc]. Break down items by category (clothes, toiletries, electronics) and specify what belongs in carry-on bags."

Real-life Win: When planning a winter break trip with three kids of different ages, this prompt saved me from the usual packing chaos. It even reminded me to pack extra chargers and backup entertainment for delays!

3️⃣ 🎨 "Mom's Working" Activity Guide

We've all been there - that important work call coinciding with your kid's most energetic moment of the day. While an impromptu child cameo can bring some levity to a meeting, sometimes you need focused time to get things done.

  • Keep kids engaged with age-appropriate activities

  • Prepare activity supplies ahead of time

  • Create independent play opportunities

  • Maintain productivity during work calls

Prompt: "Create a chart of [number] activities for my [age] year old that they can do independently and quietly while I'm on work calls. Include activity name, supplies needed, and playful instructions. Activities should be low-mess and engaging for at least [time] minutes."

Pro Tip: Create an "important call activity box" with special items your child only gets to use during your meeting times. The novelty factor helps maintain their interest!

Real-life Win: During a crucial presentation, my son stayed happily occupied with his "special activities" just off camera. The best part? He felt proud of helping mom have a successful meeting instead of feeling pushed aside.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT 🤎

for working moms with older children

My high school freshman is writing more for her non-English classes than she ever has before, and so we've been exploring how AI can help with her ideas, writing and feedback. Before panic sets in, let's talk about using AI as a writing aid – not a ghost-writer.  Here's a powerful strategy we've been using to improve essay writing skills:

Comprehensive Essay Feedback

Gather these materials:

  • The essay prompt or assignment instructions

  • Your teen's essay draft

  • Grading rubric or teacher expectations (if available)

  • Any previous teacher comments

Then, use this prompt with an AI tool:

"Review my student's essay and provide feedback. Focus on what was done well, and give specific suggestions for improvement in areas like clarity, structure, and understanding of the topic. Make the feedback general enough to apply to future assignments."

This approach:

  • Aligns feedback with assignment goals and teacher expectations

  • Highlights strengths while identifying areas for improvement

  • Provides specific, actionable suggestions

  • Offers insights that can be applied to future writing tasks

Engage with your child:

  • Walk through the feedback with them

  • Talk through how it aligns with what they’re hearing in the classroom and from their teacher

  • Drive home the general feedback on what they can work on for the next essay

Remember, we're teaching our teens to use AI as a tool for improvement, not a shortcut. It's about enhancing their skills, not replacing their unique voice.

Last week’s poll results: Nearly 50% of you said that you use exercise to cope with stress. Keep reading for a few of your thoughts and comments!

➡️ “I work part-time in the afternoon and evening and spend time with and supervise online school for my early elementary child in the morning. I give myself a real lunch break a couple of times each week: my child watches an episode of a video series and plays their favorite tablet game while I take a half hour light a candle, eat, and read in peace.”

➡️ “My hubby and I do a lot of debriefing together in the evenings after the kids are in bed or when we drive somewhere as a family. We both process aloud, and I really appreciate his insight and counsel. We also both go to the Bible for wisdom and comfort. It’s been a source of strength and peace for me all my life.”

➡️ “Getting out for a walk helps to clear my mind and refocus.”
