Biohacking 101

Breaking down what it is, how to get started, and if it’s right for you

The Carry All

Edition #210 | Read time: 5 Minutes

Hi Mamas -

Is this your face when you hear people talk about biohacking?

Maybe you’re already an expert but maybe you’re asking questions like us...What is it? Why are we doing it? Who is coming up with this stuff? Is this just for the granola moms, or are we all supposed to be doing this now?

Does taking care of yourself suddenly feel like it requires a whole new personality and a spare two hours a day?

We’re not answering every question but we’re here to give you Biohacking 101. Because at its core, biohacking isn’t about doing more or becoming someone who owns a chest freezer for ice baths. I mean you do you. But it’s really about noticing what actually helps your body function better and making small, realistic shifts that support your energy instead of draining it.

Sooo…can we do this in a way that fits into real life, real schedules, and very real levels of motivation? We think so!

Biohacks for the working mom in 3, 2, 1…

Enjoy!

THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣

1️⃣ 🧠 What Biohacking Actually Is (and Isn’t)

Biohacking isn’t a trend or a one-size-fits-all routine. It’s simply the practice of paying attention to how your body responds to habits, environments, and rhythms and then adjusting accordingly. Bio means “life”, thus biohacking means hacking your life 🙂

It’s not about optimizing every minute of your day. It’s about supporting your energy, sleep, mood, and focus in ways that feel sustainable. Think less 12-step routine and more small inputs that create noticeable relief.

The best biohack? The one that actually fits your life and reduces friction instead of adding to it. Sometimes that looks like magnesium at night. Sometimes it’s a walk after dinner. Sometimes it’s water before coffee or putting your phone down 30 minutes earlier.

Biohacking done well should feel supportive, not stressful. If it creates pressure, it’s not doing its job. What biohack would benefit your life the most? The one(s) you’ll actually keep.

2️⃣   🌅 If You Start with One Thing, Start Here

Most of the time, the first question we ask is: What do I need to buy?
Is there a supplement? A device? A product everyone swears by? Sure. We’ll get to that. But first, let’s talk about what you can do with what you already have and without spending a dollar.

Two words: sleep and light.

If you do nothing else, can you get 5–10 minutes of sunlight during the day? Can you dim the lights at night? What would it look like to set a few simple parameters to protect your sleep window?

Listen, we’re moms. We get it. There’s only so much you can control. But for the things that are within reach, more light during the day and better sleep at night can often do more for your energy and mood than any supplement ever will.

Are these sexy, trendy, or fun? Not really. But sometimes the boring things that work quietly in the background of your life are the ones that lay the strongest foundation for everything else.

You don’t need fancy tools. Small, consistent habits with the basics can make a noticeable difference. Sometimes we need the push to go big and try something new. And sometimes, the unsexy, repeatable stuff is exactly what we need.

3️⃣  🛒 If You’re Ready to Go Full Send

Okay, so what if you are a full-send kind of person and you’re ready to try something? Totally fair. Just remember: the best biohacks are the ones you can actually keep up with. Know thyself, mamas.

If you’re going to order something, use it for a week, and then forget about it in a drawer, aim for something that fits comfortably into your existing routine. Practical > aspirational.

But if you’re an overachiever and love a good experiment, here are a few things worth trying:

You don’t need all of it. Pick one. Seriously…we’re not trying to be bossy, and this isn’t 9th grade soccer tryouts. You have nothing to prove. Try one thing consistently and see how your body responds. Biohacking isn’t about collecting tools — it’s about finding what actually helps you.

And just to make sure we dot the i’s and cross the t’s… check with your healthcare provider before starting anything new.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT 🤎
for the mom helping her child navigate new friendships

Helping your child or teen make new friends can feel tricky—whether you just moved, they joined a new team, or are trying a new activity. You’re not alone!

While you can’t make friends for them, you can support them by listening, encouraging their interests, and gently teaching social skills. Small wins—like a shared joke, a successful playdate, or simply showing up—count, and your calm presence helps them build confidence that lasts. For more tips at any age, check out this helpful guide from the APA.

Last week’s poll results: We asked, “If you had a free pass for one splurge right now, what would you spoil yourself with?”

The clear winner—taking over 30% of the votes—was a spa day 💆‍♀️ (no surprise there). Close behind were a home organizer (because peace = tidy spaces 🙌) and a solo day or night away to fully reset.

Basically… we’re all craving rest, calm, and someone else handling things for once 😅💛

Here are a few things you had to say:

➡️ Picture organization. How do I get them off my phone and saved somewhere else? Why do I still have 10 shots of my cat sitting on my lap? Do I organize by kid, event or year? Ugh! I don't know where to start! I've had 2 kids get married and have kids and have no pictures of them hanging in my house anywhere, it is too overwhelming!”

➡️ Personal trainer!”

➡️ “New king bed!!!!”

➡️ “I'd splurge on a service for my copywriting biz💜

➡️ I said a day or night away, but honestly can we make it a vacation, alone? Where can I just order room service, go shopping, and sleep quietly without worrying about work or kids? Because that is what I could use right now.”
