THE BIG 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣
1️⃣ 😟 Helping Kids Manage Back-to-School Anxiety
Along with new sneakers and fresh haircuts for the new school year often comes a healthy dose of anxiety. After relaxing and not having many obligations all summer, it can be challenging for kids to adjust to the demands of school. They might be nervous about anything from making friends, tougher curriculum or new teachers. It’s important to talk with them to get to the root of what might be causing anxiety. Keep in mind that having a healthy routine they can rely on also helps a lot. Check out this article that has great advice on the topic, including limiting screen time and focusing on family activities.
2️⃣ 🏫 Reasons to Attend Back-to-School Night
We know, we know. Back-to-school night (along with the other 164 activities that you need to attend at the beginning of the school year) can be a drag. 😑 But this year, you might want to consider actually going - and for good reason. Attending back-to-school night helps ensure you’re setting your kids up for a positive school year. Here are 7 reasons to consider going, including learning how to help your child at home.
3️⃣ 👖 The BEST Kids Clothing Organizer for the School Week
The insanity in most homes when everyone is trying to get out the door is REAL. Get everyone up, out of bed on time, teeth brushing, hair brushing, finding outfits, getting dressed, making lunches, eating breakfast, and leaving. It’s an Olympic event. That’s why we LOVE this clothing organizer for kids for the school week. On Sunday, help them pick out everything they’ll wear from M-F, put it in its proper cubby, and let the kids easily get dressed on their own. That’s one less thing you need to manage in the morning.
BEEN THERE, DONE THAT 🤎
for working moms with older children
If you have a teen or preteen in the house, then you likely know that talking to them can sometimes feel like avoiding landmines. With so many hormones and emotions at play, you can’t be sure which version of your kid you’re going to get at any moment. So what do you say that won’t set them off (or have repercussions that will land them in therapy some day…)? Just remember that you want to create a safe space for your teen and for them to know that they can come to you with whatever is on their mind without fear of judgment. We loved these things NOT to say to your teens, including “you’re too old for that.” Oof. Let’s skip the embarrassment for them.
Ever find yourself sugar coating your answer when someone asks how your teen is doing? You’re not alone. They’re not little kids with little kid problems anymore. As they grow, their concerns and struggles rival our own, and require a lot more discretion and respect. So blurting out how your kid is struggling with depression shouldn’t really be an option - at least to people you don’t trust with your own private matters. This article dives deeper into this topic and is a great reminder that we’re all in this together, and that none of us really knows how to navigate these teen waters.
Last week’s poll results: Over 60% of you prioritize saving and investing, and nearly 20% of you don’t know where to start. Keep reading for a few of your thoughts and comments!
➡️ “The lingo for investing is so out there. I don't even know where to begin. I wish there was a way to make it easier for the average lay person to understand and just make it simpler to do!”
➡️ “Thank you so much for the “Money Moms” article!! I had no idea how much information and resources are out there to help all moms with finances and budgeting. This will definitely be a huge help for me!!”
➡️ “On the topic of money and savings: my teens both have jobs. I have taught them to treat money with respect. It can be hard to earn, easily wasted, and it will not buy you joy or peace. My finance rule of thumb is to save some, spend some, and give some. If you keep those in balance, you'll be okay.”
